McBurse scores MEAC Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 17) - Al-Terek McBurse of Florida A&M was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Joe Thomas of South Carolina State was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Seth Higgins of Morgan State was selected as the Rookie of the Week while Steve Robinson of Florida A&M was named Offensive Lineman of the Week. Ryan Estep of Norfolk State, Blake Erickson of South Carolina State, and Sven Hurd of Bethune-Cookman earned Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively.

McBurse (RB, 5-11, 205, Jr., Oviedo, Fla.) rushed for a career-high 218 yards on 14 carries, along with three touchdowns, to lead Florida A&M to a 47-7 win over Savannah State. He averaged 15.6 yards per carry and became the first FAMU running back since 2007 to rush for 200 yards in a game.

Thomas (LB, 6-0, 230, So., Blackville, SC) recorded a career-high 14 tackles, one for a loss, as he guided the Bulldog's defense to a 23-13 non-conference victory over Georgia State. Thomas also recorded an interception in the victory to setup the team's first score.

Higgins (QB, 6-4, 210, Fr., Edgewood, Md.) completed 13-of-18 passes for 156 yards and tossed four touchdowns in the Bears' 52-3 win over North Carolina Central.

Robinson (QG, 6-3, 300, Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) graded out at 98-percent of his assignments as he aided Florida A&M to 448 yards of total offense in the Rattlers' 47-7 win over Savannah State. He also recorded four pancake blocks in the win.

Estep (K, 5-10, 165, r-Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) nailed all of his kicking duties as he scored 10 points in the Spartans' 34-24 win over Hampton. He connected on field goals of 38 and 22 yards out, extending his consecutive field goal streak to 16 dating back to last season. He also recorded 4-of-4 PATs.

Erickson (PK/P, 5-10, 165, Sr., Cantonment, Fla.) posted a perfect performance, connecting on 2-of-2 PATs and 3-of-3 field goal attempts with kicks of 41, 34, and 32 yards out in the Bulldogs' victory over non-conference opponent Georgia State. Erickson, who recorded 11 of the team's 23 points, helped the Bulldogs' end a 0-9 non-conference skid.

Hurd (K, 5-10, 240, Tallahassee, Fla.) set a single-game school record for kick scoring with 16 total points against Fort Valley State, breaking a 22 year old mark with 7-of-7 PATs and field goal kicks of 37, 31, and 37 yards. On kickoffs, Hurd averaged 62.7 yards on 10 attempts, including three inside the five yard-line.

Nicholas Adams (MSU) averaged 42.6 yards on five punts, including a 50-yard blast, and three inside the 20 yard-line against North Carolina Central.

 

Ben Binder (NCAT) posted nine tackles, three solo, with one pass breakup in the Aggies' victory over Delaware State.

 

Hasan Craig (NSU) recorded a career-best eight tackles, two solo, with 2.5 sacks for an 18-yard loss.

 

Richard Cue (SCSU) completed 16-of-30 passes for 213 yards and rushed 12 times for 45 yards with two TDs in the Bulldogs' win over Georgia State.


Ryan Davis (B-CU) collected seven tackles, 4.5 for a loss of 26 yards, with one pass breakup and two forced fumbles against Fort Valley State.


Travis Davidson (MSU) tallied 142 yards rushing on 25 attempts with three touchdowns against North Carolina Central.

 

Damien Fleming (FAMU) completed 10-of-13 passes, with one TD, and rushed for another TD against Savannah State.


D'Vonte Grant (NCAT) recorded six tackles, five solo, one pass breakup and an interception return for 28 yards in the Aggies' homecoming victory over Delaware State.

 

Samuel Hammond (SCSU) recorded six pancake blocks and graded out at 91 percent of his assignments as he anchored the Bulldog's offensive line that assisted with 368 yards of total offense.


Brandon Harvey (DSU) tallied eight tackles, two solo, with 4.5 for a 16-yard loss.

 

Brandon Holdren (FAMU) averaged 40.5 yards on four punts for a total of 162 yards in a win over Savannah State.

 

Nicholas Hollinghead (FAMU) tallied six tackles, one solo, with 1.5 for a loss of 8 yards. He also forced and recovered a fumble and recorded a pass breakup.

 

Sackie Kerkulah (Howard) collected 10 tackles, 3.5 for losses and three quarterback hurries in Howard's loss to Georgetown.

 

Isidore Jackson (B-CU) carried the ball 19 times for 150 yards with three touchdowns in the Wildcats' rout over Fort Valley State.

 

Keenan Lambert (NSU) tallied four tackles, one tackle for a loss, with one pass breakup and his first career interception in the Spartans' 34-24 win over Hampton.

 

Mike Mayhew (NCAT) recorded 24 carries for 128 yards with three touchdowns in the Aggies' homecoming victory over Delaware State.


Corey Mason (B-CU) assisted the Wildcat's offensive line that accounted for 648 total yards of offense against Fort Valley State.

 

Greg McGhee (Howard) completed 17-of-31 passes for 115 yards and rushed for another 24 against Georgetown.

 

Steven Murphy (SCSU) returned an interception 35 yards in the Bulldogs' 23-13 win over non-conference foe Georgia State.

 

Kendall Noble (NSU) collected three pancake blocks and graded out at 86-percent of his assignments as he anchored the Spartan's offensive line that accounted for 473 yards of total offense.


William Ray Robinson (NCAT) graded out at 92-percent of his assignments as he aided the Aggies' offensive line to 440 yards of total offense. He also recorded four pancake blocks.

 

Allen Stephens (MSU) posted six tackles, two solo, with a forced fumble and pass breakup against North Carolina Central.

 

Travis Tarpley (DSU) caught nine passes for 121 yards with one touchdown against North Carolina A&T.

 

Chris Walley (NSU) earned the NSU Battle of the Bay MVP after completing 20-of-35 passes for 265 yards with three touchdowns in the Spartans victory over Hampton.

 

Mitchell Ward (DSU) recovered his own onside kick and finished 1-of-1 in field goal attempts and 3-of-3 in extra points attempts in the Hornets' loss to North Carolina A&T.
