Lady Rattlers Shut Out Tigers 7-0 For First Win

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 4) - The Florida A&M Women's Tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they swept Savannah State, 7-0, here Sunday afternoon at Tiger Tennis Court.

FAMU (1-5, 1-0 MEAC) won the doubles point as they won all three doubles matches. The team of Katherine Durden and Alexis Brown defeated Sand Kristijandottir and Nicole Ashiedu , 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles matches. Then the team of Bethany Holt and Elysia Ortiz won the No. 2 double as they defeated the team of Esmira Gheisary and Chandel McDonie, 8-1. In the No. 3 doubles, the team of Brittney Dean and Shani Williams defeated the team of Ge'Anne Hilton and Davita Washington, 8-1.

The Lady Rattlers swept the singles competition, as Kathline Durden defeated Kristjnasdottir, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles competition. Then Alexis Brown won the No. 2 singles as she defeated Gheisary, 6-0, 6-0 In straight sets. Williams would also win the No. 5 singles in straight sets as she defeated Hilton, 6-0, 6-0.

SSU (0-7, 0-1 MEAC) would score their most points as Bethany Holt defeated Ashiedu, 6-1-6-2 in the No. 3 singles competition.

FAMU will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to take on North Carolina A&T on Monday, March 5.
