Bears Claw Rattlers 13-2 To Open Two Game Series

MACON, Ga. (March 20) - The Florida A&M Baseball team dropped, a 13-2 decision to Mercer University, here Tuesday afternoon at Claude Smith Field.


FAMU (4-18) finished the contest with five hits, while Mercer pounded out a robust 16 hits.

Nate Moorehouse led the Bears from the plate as he finished the game with four hits in five at-bats.  The Rattlers had five players to finished with one hit each.

Dawson Brown picked up the win for Mercer as he gave up four hits, two earned runs and struck out four in five innings on the mound. Miles Williams received the loss for FAMU as he gave up seven hits, four earned runs and struck out two in two-thirds innings on the mound.

FAMU got on the board in the top of the first as Reginald Grant scored on a double play, giving the Rattlers a 1-0 lead.  Then the Rattlers would score their final run of the game in the top of the fifth as Michael Birdsong scored on a single, cutting the Bears' lead to 5-2.

Mercer (15-7) scored two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and five runs in the fifth, giving the Bears the 13-2 win.

FAMU will conclude their two game series with Mercer on Wednesday, March 21 at 4 p.m. at Claude Smith Field.
