DAYTONA BEACH, FL (May 5) – The FAMU Lady Rattler Softball (18-30, 9-4 MEAC) team split with the B-CU Wildcats (17-32, 11-2 MEAC), as they teams finally got to play after a 24-hour delay due to inclement weather. The Lady Rattlers won the first game 7-5, while dropping the second game 12-3, at the Sunnyland Softball Field in Daytona Beach.
The Lady Rattlers benefitted from errant pitching from B-CU, leading to 11 walks, while four Lady Rattler batters were hit by pitcher Wildcat pitcher Shanel Tolbert. Arianna Stewart led the Lady Rattlers from the plate with two hits, while Christina Robbs and Tikeya Strong collected one hit each. Strong would collect two RBIs on one hit, while Alyssa Weaver collected two RBIs with no hits.
Jennifer Lindsey got the win for the Lady Rattlers, pitching a complete seven innings, allowing 10 hits, five runs, no walks and striking out three.
Sophia Ortega led the Wildcats with three hits, while three other Wildcats collected two hits each, to actually outhit the Lady Rattlers 10-4.
Shanel Tolbert took the loss for B-CU as she pitched seven complete innings, allowing four hits, 11 walks and six strikeouts in the game.
Lady Rattlers Lose Second Game of Doubleheader
The B-CU Lady Wildcats regrouped in the second game of the doubleheader to pull out a 12-3 victory, run-ruling the Lady Rattlers in six innings. The Lady Rattlers committed three errors, which compounded the team issues.
Tolbert came back strong in the second game as well, stabilizing to allow only seven hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Ashley Minter took the loss for the Lady Rattlers. She pitched three and one-third innings, allowing six runs, six hits and three walks. Lindsey would come on in relief, pitching two and one-third innings, five hits, six runs and two walks.
Strong led the Lady Rattlers from the plate with two hits, scoring one run. Kieifi Myrick also garnered two hits. Naesha Lewis, Brielle Gordon and Stewart collected one hit each.
The 'rubber' match between the Rattlers and Wildcats will take place on Monday at 12 noon as the Wildcats celebrate Senior Day.
