FAMU Volleyballers Blank NCCU, 3-0 Friday

DURHAM, N.C. (Nov. 10) – The FAMU Women's Volleyball team scored a big conference win Friday night, as they blanked North Carolina Central, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) at McDougald-McLendon Gym.

FAMU (12-11, 8-1 MEAC) remained tied for first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Southern Division, thanks to the trio of Nicole Abreu (13 kills), Maria Yvett Garcia and Candelaria Herrera (10 kills each) who were dominant at the net Friday.

Abreu also had 13 digs and two blocks, while Valentina Carrasco had a team-high 16 digs, and Valeria Lopez dished out 34 assists.

The Rattlers had their hands full against NCCU (4-18, 4-5 MEAC), as they dressed just seven players due to various injuries, and the Eagles stayed close, particularly in the second set, which FAMU won 25-23, after holds off the home team, 25-20 in the opener.

WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU closes the regular season Sunday afternoon at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, then will set their sights on the MEAC Volleyball Championship, which begins next Friday at Princess Anne, Maryland.
