Florida A&M University (FAMU) Athletics and FAMU First Lady of Football Shaia Simmons have announced a date change for the “Heels-n-Helmets” Women’s Football Camp. The new date for the camp is slated for October 20. FAMU football is off that weekend, allowing the camp to take place in Bragg Stadium.
The date change is partially due to ongoing construction, as the implementation of the synthetic turf field in Bragg Stadium is taking shape. FAMU Athletics wants to ensure that the women who attend the camp have a safe and enjoyable time. In addition, Mrs. Simmons wants participants to have the unique experience of playing on the new surface.
“The goal of our camp is to teach women about football and offer them the opportunity to experience it. So much positive attention has surrounded the new AstroTurf field this summer and I really want them to be able to play on it. It’s an exclusive opportunity that is not yet available to the general public,” Simmons said.
Registration for the “Heels-n-Helmets” camp will begin on September 1. Registration is available at the FAMU Ticket Office located in the Alfred Lawson, Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium or online at FAMUAthletics.com.
