GULF SHORES, Ala. (Feb. 8) - The FAMU Women's Softball team opened the 2019 season Friday afternoon with an 9-1 setback to Louisiana Tech in five innings in the opening round of the Sand Dollar Classic.

FAMU scored its' lone run in the fop of the fifth, when Jamesia Stoudemire doubled and later came home on Hera Varmah's sac fly.

Stoudemire and Tyra Bowers had the only hits for FAMU Friday.

Camryn Fixico (0-1) took the loss in her first career start for FAMU, working two and two thirds innings, allowing nine runs on 10 hits with two walks. LeeAnn Hayes came on in the  bottom of the third, working the final inning and a third, allowing no hits, and wto walks and a strikeout.
