TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 22) – The Florida A&M Baseball team had yet another heartbreaking loss on Friday evening, dropping a 5-4 non-conference decision to the Alcorn (Miss) State Braves at Moore-Kittles Field.
FAMU (0-6) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Robert Robinson and Willis McDaniel, scoring Seyjuan Lawrence and Robinson.
The Rattlers extended their lead to 3-1 in the sixth on Kaycee Reese's RBI single, scoring Willis McDaniel, before the Braves scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 3-3.
Both teams scored a run in the sixth, leaving the score tied 4-4, before the Braves jumped ahead for good pushing across a run in the top of the ninth.
Morgan Mendez (0-2) took the loss in relief for FAMU. Starter Kyle Coleman went six and two-thirds, with eight strikeouts against three walks, while allowing three runs on three hits.
Robeert Robinson, Willis McDaniel and Seyjuan Lawrence each had two hits for the Rattlers, which finished with eight hits on the day. Robinson, McDaniel Larence and Kaycee Reese each drove in a run for the Rattlers Friday.
WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU and Alcorn State will play a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Moore-Kittles Field…. It is also Baseball Reunion Weekend, and the FAMU Baseball Alumni will be in full force Saturday to make financial contributions to the Baseball program.
