Orange Nips Green In Spring Game Saturday, 17-14

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Mar. 30) - All-America kicker Chris Faddoul's 25-yard field goal with just seconds remaining in the game, lifted the Orange Team to a 17-14 win over the Green squad in the 2019 FAMU Spring Football Game at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Saturday's festivities featured the use of four quarterbacks, and an exciting mix of ground attack and aerial acrobatics which featured both returning veterans and redshirted freshmen.

Senior QB Ryan Stanley led the aerial attack, passing for 217 yards and a pair of scores for the Green team, while veteran running back Deshawn Smith, the club's leading rusher from a year ago, rumbled for a game-high 130 yards on 11 carries, twice finding the end zone for the Orange team.

Redshirt freshman Resean McKay and junior D.J. Phillips, took turns running the offense for the Orange, and the plethora of skill players were on display as well, including halfback Azende Rey, who wore the colors of both teams Saturday,; running back Eddie Tillman got in some carries, while the full range of Rattler pass grabbers got into the fray, including Chad Hunter, David Manigo, Blake Veargis, Jordan Reed, Ferante Cowart, Dock Luckie.

A crowd of 7,304 witnessed the fast paced affair, which also featured a full halftime performance by the FAMU Marching 100, which performed its' Rose Parade routine from their trip to Pasadena, California in January.

The partisan crowd also responded with cheers when kicker Chris Faddoul was presented his All-American awards from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Associated Press, and a plaque from the NCAA signifying his punting championship in 2018, when he averaged 46.8 yards per kick.

He also received a citation from FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson, in recognition of his perfect 4.0 academic performance in 2018-19.

FAMU will conduct additional practice work this week to close out the spring session.

The Rattlers will open the 2019 regular season on August 29 in Orlando against UCF.
