Rattlers Drop Saturday Matinee To Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. (Sept. 7) – The Florida A&M Volleyball team closed out play in the Sawyer Camillo Classic here Saturday afternoon with a tough four-set loss to the host University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns at Earl K. Long Arena.

FAMU (1-7) dropped the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-4, before clawing back into contention with a hard-fought third set victory, 25-23.

However, Louisiana (3-3) would go on to close out the match with a 25-13 count in the fourth set.

Senior outside Maria Yvett Garcia set the pace for FAMU with team highs in kills, with 15, and digs with 19.

Junior Alexis Gosha, who earned All-Tournament honors, added eight kills and eight digs, to give her 34 kills and 32 digs in the tournament.

Senior setter Elena Dimitrova had 26 assists and 10 digs, while newcomer Celeste Rodriguez had 17 digs for FAMU, which also got 10 more from junior Ilayda Nurkan.

 

WHAT'S ON TAP: FAMU returns to Tallahassee for a three-match set in the FAMU-FSU Invitational beginning Friday, as the Rattlers face off against St. John's of New York at Tully Gymnasium on the FSU campus starting at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, FAMU will host Stony Brook at 12 noon in the Lawson Center, before taking a cross town jaunt for the 6:00 p.m. finale against FSU in Tully Gym.
