Lady Rattlers Open Season at MEAC Conference #1 Meet

GLEN BURNIE, Md. | The Florida A&M University women's bowling team opened its season over the weekend as the Lady Rattlers went 5-7 at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) #1 Meet and finished fifth.

 

Florida A&M (5-7) went into bracket play on Sunday with a bye to begin the day as the Lady Rattlers defeated Howard, 4-2 and Coppin State, 4-0 to earn the fifth-place finish.

 

FAMU, which had its season opener at the Florida State Seminole Classic cancelled due to Tropical Storm Nestor Oct. 19-20, went 1-4 during the opening day of the tournament, with an 861-813 victory over Norfolk State.

 

The Lady Rattlers picked up a pair of wins during play on Saturday as FAMU defeated Morgan State, 865-730 and rival Bethune-Cookman, 920-686.

 

Individually, Chelsie Cleave averaged a 203, which was among the Top 5 in the tournament. Demetria Bethel averaged a 176.0 total pinfal during six traditional matches, including rolling a 198 against Monmouth. Keondra Eaton rolled a 175.5 and posted a 200 against Morgan State, while Leann Militscher finished with 174.3 average and tossed a 192 against Monmouth.

 

Florida A&M returns to action Nov. 15 through Nov. 17 at the Hornet Classic, hosted by Alabama State University, in Montgomery, Ala.
