Rattlers Swept By ASU Hornets After 17-4 Defeat

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 14) - Alabama State completed their sweep as the Hornets handed the Rattlers a 17-4 defeat, here Wednesday afternoon at Moore Kittles Field.

FAMU (3-17) tallied eight hits on the day as Dylan West went two-for-two from the plate to lead the Rattlers.

ASU (6-13) finished the contest with 19 hits as Waldyvan Estrada finished the game with four hits, while Richard Amion garnered with three hits to lead the Hornets.

Greg Matthews (1-4) picked up the win for ASU as he pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, while striking out four in the 31 batters he faced.  John Roberts (0-2) received the loss for FAMU as gave up nine hits, five earned runs and struck out five in five and one-third innings on the mound.

The Hornets grabbed a 3-0 lead after two and one-half innings of play.

FAMU cut ASU's lead to 3-1 as Reginald Grant scored on a Jarryd Reid single to the left side in the bottom of the third inning.

The Rattlers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as both West and Khiry Hernandez scored on a John Scott single to right field.  That was followed by a Hornet wild pitch scoring Grant, giving FAMU a 4-3 lead.

ASU regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Estrada doubled down the left field line scoring Richard Amion and Einar Muniz, giving the Hornets a 5-3 lead.

The Hornets would invoked the ten-run mercy rule as they scored seven runs in the top of the sixth and five runs in the top of the seventh for the 17-4 finale.

FAMU will return to action on Thursday, March 15 as they will welcome Jacksonville University to the Moore-Kittles Field in a 4 p.m. start.
