TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 7) - The Florida A&M Softball team split a doubleheader with North Carolina A&T as the Lady Aggies won game one 9-5 and the Lady Rattlers bounced back in game two as they won 13-0, here Saturday afternoon at the Lady Rattlers Softball Complex.
N.C. A&T (12-19, 5-1 MEAC) finished the contest with 13 hits as Juanita Jernigan led the Lady Aggies from the plate with three hits in four at-bats, while driving in one run and scoring one run.
FAMU (16-25, 2-5 MEAC) tallied 10 hits in the contest as three Lady Rattlers finished with two hits each.
Ashira Dobison (11-11)picked up the win for the Lady Aggies as she pitched seven innings, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs in the 33 batters she faced. Addie Dozier (1-3) received the loss as she pitched one and one-third innings in relief, allowing two hits, two earned runs and striking out two in the nine batters she faced.
FAMU jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Jasmine Donaldson scored on an Arianna Stewart single.
N.C. A&T retook the lead in the top of the second inning as Juanita Jernigan scored on a Regan Smith single, then Sabrinia Edmonds would homer to right center, giving the Lady Aggies a 2-1 lead.
Jernigan picked up her second RBI of the game as she singled to left field scoring Dominique Smith, increasing the Lady Aggies' lead to 3-1, in the top of the third inning.
Arianna Stewart would ground out to the second baseman scoring Jasmin Donaldson, cutting the Lady Aggies' lead to 3-2, in the bottom of the third inning.
FAMU tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Kieifi Myrick scored on a N.C. A&T error.
The Lady Rattlers captured the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Donaldson scored on a Tera Gainer sacrifice fly, giving FAMU a 4-3 lead.
N.C. A&T regained the lead in top of the sixth inning as Detavia Kenan doubled to right center scoring Zebreshia Blakeney, who singled in her at-bat. Then both Kenan and Smith would score on a FAMU infielder's error, giving the Lady Aggies a 6-4 lead.
The Lady Aggies would score three more runs in the top of the seventh inning, giving N.C. A&T a 9-4 lead.
FAMU would score their final run of the game on as Donaldson scored her fourth run of the game on a Dozier double to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 9-5 finale.
In game two, FAMU pounded out 15 hits, while N.C.A&T finished with 3.
Donaldson led the Lady Rattlers from the plate as she tallied three hits in four at-bats, while driving in two runs and scoring one to lead FAMU.
The Lady Aggies had three players to finish with one hit each.
Jennifer Lindsey (7-7) picked up the win for the Lady Rattlers as she pitched five innings, giving up three hits and striking out three in the 22 batters she faced. Alexandria McAfee (1-8) pitched four inning, giving up 15 hits and 10 earned runs.
The Lady Rattlers score runs in bunches as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the fourth and four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
FAMU will return to action on Tuesday, April 10 as they will take on cross town rival Florida State in a 6 p.m. start at JoAnne Graf Field.
