TALLAHASSEE,FL (Aug.22) - The 220 Quarterback Club kicked off its weekly luncheon series last week at the Ole Times Country Buffet.  This week, FAMU athletic Director Derek Horne was the primary guest speaker.  Softball coach Veronica Wiggins and sports information director Vaughn Wilson were also invited guests.

Wiggins took the opportunity to thank the 220 Quarterback Club for purchasing a new pitching machine and two water removal systems.  "I just wanted to tell you that we used the item you invested in for us last year.  In the MEAC conference tournament, we hit so well and we think the pitching machine your bought for us was a big help in our success," Wiggins said.

Horne gave an overview of athletics. "Our financial struggles are well-documented. It is with dedication from FAMU alumni, friends and fans that will help us to stop the bleeding and begin to work in the right direction. I can assure you that our athletics staff is doing everything in our power to supply our coaches and student-athletes with the resources they need to be successful," Horne said.

Several questions centered around the recently announced halftime entertainment. "We've only announced a part of the lineup for this year. We expect to have some marching bands in the mix as well. Keep in mind that there is nothing we can do to replace the Marching "100" at halftime. In the history of the school, this is the first time we've had to field an intercollegiate football team without them, since their beginnings. I can promise you that our football team has been working hard since January. They have excelled in the classroom and they are ready to represent you," he added.

The 220 Quarterback Club is an organization that raises money for FAMU Athletics through a weekly luncheon. During football season for the last two years, the 220 Quarterback Club has donated $500 weekly to the football Summer scholarship fund. During other seasons, the other sports are assisted with their needs. There is no fee to join the 220 Quarterback Club.
