12th Annual HBCU National Championship Begins Today

ATLANTA,GA (Sept.27) - The 12th Annual HBCU National Championship Tennis Tournament will be hosted by the FAMU tennis team, starting today, through Saturday at the Clayton County Tennis Center in Jonesboro, GA.

This year's tournament has a host of sponsors, dedicated to helping provide a good experience for the best tennis players in HBCU athletics. Several teams will participate in this year's tournament. Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Benedict College, Bethune-Cookman, Clark-Atlanta, Delaware State, Hampton, Morehouse, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Prarie View A&M, Savannah State, Southern University and the FAMU Rattlers will all participate in both men's and women's tennis competition.

This year's event is sponsored by the USTA National Diversity Committee, who is the title sponsor. They are providing among other things, a $1,000 scholarship to both the men's and women's champions. The USTA Florida, USTA Southern Section, Rainbow Tennis Association, Coacn Tennis Association, Coca Cola, Suru Balogun, Clayton County Tennis Center and Everest Academy Massage Therapy have all provided fund and resources to accommodate and grow the tournament.

Play begins daily at 8:30 a.m. and admission is free to the public. The address to the Clayton County Tennis Center is 2300 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
