TALLAHASSEE, FL – Florida A&M (16-12, 6-3 MEAC) returns to the friendly confines of Moore-Kittles Field this weekend as they host North Carolina A&T (14-13, 5-4 MEAC) for a three-game Southern Division MEAC series. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM, while Sunday’s series finale is also slated for a 1:00 PM first pitch.
FAMU has enjoyed playing at home so far this season with a 12-4 record. The Rattlers have won each of the four weekend series they’ve played at Moore-Kittles Field.
The Rattlers enter the contest ranked first in the MEAC Southern Division with a 6-3 record, but have hit a rough stretch, dropping seven of their last nine games. This will be FAMU’s first action since their 17-5 blowout win last Sunday against North Carolina Central, as their midweek game against Alabama State was cancelled due to inclement weather.
North Carolina A&T enters the series with a 5-4 MEAC record, good for fourth place in the Southern Division. The Aggies swept Savannah State at home last weekend by scores of 12-3, 2-1 and 11-5 before dropping a midweek game to High Point 9-5.
Last year, Florida A&M won all six contests against the Aggies, improving Jamey Shouppe’s record to 16-2 all-time against the Southern Division rivals.
Aubrey McCarty paces the Rattlers offensively and is coming off his best game of 2017 as he went 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI against North Carolina Central on Sunday. McCarty leads Florida A&M in six offensive categories: at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, home runs, RBI.
NCAT is led at the plate by Adan Ordonez (.322 BA, 10 2B, 5 HR, 28 RBI) and will counter with Michael Johnson (2-1, 4.13 ERA), Marcello Betances (3-3, 6.35 ERA) and Kaeson Wilson (3-2, 4.63) on the hill.
