By: Florida A&M Sports Information
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 14) – FAMU freshman shortstop Jamesia Stoudemire broke up a nationally-televised pitcher’s duel here Friday afternoon by belting her fifth home run of the season to lift the Lady Rattlers over Savannah State, 1-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference softball game.

Stoudemire’s blast came in the bottom of the sixth inning to give FAMU their 10th straight win and their fourth straight late-inning win, while foiling Savannah State’s bid for their first win of the season.

Senior Kenya Pereira (5-9) of FAMU, allowed the Lady Tigers (0-28, 0-7 MEAC) just one hit in seven innings, striking out five and walking just one, overcoming three fielding errors in the early innings as well.

Savannah State senior Amanda McDowell (0-12) scattered four hits in six innings, striking out five against no walks, giving up just the one earned run of Stoudemire’s bat in the sixth.

Stoudemire finished with two of FAMU’s four hits, with Alexis Day and Miesha McBride collecting a single each.

WHAT’S ON DECK: FAMU will close the series with Savannan State Saturday at 1:00 p.m., preceded by Senior Day Ceremonies at 12:40 p.m.
