GREENSBORO, NC (May 4) – The two-time defending MEAC outdoor track & Field champion Lady Rattlers, used the first day to position themselves for yet another run at the title. The Lady Rattlers led all teams, scoring 30 points on the opening day. With a strong effort from field athletes and the ever-dependable distance runners, the Lady Rattlers made the most of the conditions to lead the pack into the weekend at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
Senior Alexandria Marshall-Paul won the discus throw with a toss of 47.65m (156-04). Senior Benisha Johnson would follow closely in fourth place with a score of 40.84m (134-00). The Rattlers would round out their scoring int he event with Andrea Aaron placing eighth for FAMU. She mustered an effort of 39.51m (129-07) to score a point for the team.
In the 10K, the 2016 MEAC cross country champions packed up the middle to rack up scores int he meet. Junior Judith Kibii took fourth place with a time of 38:50.96. She was followed consecutively by Emma Kiplagat, Fridah Limo and Caroline Kiplagat. The ladies scored times of 39:44.28, 39:49.86 and 40:46.68 respectively. Junior Naomi Tanui would also grab a top 10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 41:04.01.
