GREENSBORO, NC (May 6) – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers placed third in the 2017 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of eventual champion North Carolina A&T State University.

Head coach Darlene Moore, Ed.D, who was the two-time defending MEAC champion, was complimentary of the level of competition.  “I am proud of my young ladies for their effort.  We had some things that did not go our way during the meet…performances that did not mirror the way the athletes had performed during the season.  What is encouraging is that our young ladies never gave up.  They showed their Rattler pride in continuing to fight to the end.  It was a testament to this team's character and that is encouraging,” Moore said.

Alexandria Marshall-Paul led the Rattlers, winning the discus throw for the second consecutive time.  Her toss of 47.65m (156-04) topped all competitors.

Andrea Aaron placed second in the javelin throw.  Her toss of 40.32m placed her runnuer-up in the event.

Senior sprinter Christina Moodie finished third in the 400m dash, carding a time of 54,71

In the 100m hurdles, freshman Alahni Wood took home fourth place with a time of 13.82.  BEnisha Johnson took fourth place in the discus throw with 40.84m.

Emma Kiplagat led the Rattlers in the 5K run.  She placed fifth in 18:35.87. DiCaria Alvarez took fifth place in the pole vault, witha leap of 2.99m.

Freshman Mia Lewis took sixth place in the 400m hurdles.  She finished the oval in 1:03.19.  Destiny Johnson finished sixth in the 800m run, which she completed in 2:14.57.  Junior distance runner Judith Kibii took sixth place in the 1500m run.  She finished the trek in 4:43.73.

Freshman jumper, Tiara Corbett, placed seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 11.77m.  Alexandria Marshal-Paul took seventh in the javelin throw with 35.69m as her mark.

Andrea Aaron placed eighth in the discus throw with a toss of 39.51m.

Moore was encouraged by the performances of her underclassmen. “We have a good core of younger athletes that now have the experience of a MEAC championship.  With a good recruiting class, we will work hard to get the MEAC crown back to the highest of seven hills.  Next year starts now and me and my staff are going work hard to get back to championship form.  We thank our seniors and look forward to their graduations.  We have had great success with their contributions and we are grateful they chose to come to FAMU,” Moore concluded.
