TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the 2017 Baseball All-Conference Honors on Tuesday. Florida A&M had eight All-MEAC honorees for the second consecutive season as five Rattlers were voted Second Team All-MEAC and three were voted Third Team All-MEAC. Florida A&M had more All-MEAC selections than any other school in the conference.
Ben Ellzey, Aubrey McCarty, Dallas Oliver, Kaycee Reese, and Willis McDaniel were each awarded Second Team Honors, while Ryan Anderson, Garrett Wilkinson, and Hunter Fillingim garnered Third Team Honors.
Ellzey, a Preseason First Team All-MEAC selection, started 47 games this season for the Rattlers as the everyday third baseman. The senior from Ocala, FL batted .311 on the year with 55 hits, six doubles, four home runs, 31 runs scored, and 26 RBI.
McCarty had a standout season for Florida A&M both at the plate and on the mound. The junior from Doerun, GA ranked in the top 10 in the MEAC in multiple offensive categories including: home runs (8, T-1st), RBI (44, 2nd), hits (57, 7th), slugging percentage (.487, 8th), total bases (94, 4th), and at-bats (193, 5th). McCarty also ranked fourth in the MEAC in both innings pitched (71.2) and wins (6) and pitched a team-high three complete games.
Oliver started 41 games for FAMU playing both left and right field. The junior from Chipley, FL was ranked ninth in the MEAC in batting average (.342) and tenth in on base percentage (.419). Oliver tallied 53 hits, 28 runs, six doubles, and 19 RBI on the year.
Reese had a breakout season for the Rattlers as he started every game but one at second base after only appearing in 12 games last year in his freshman campaign. The sophomore from Tallahassee, FL led the MEAC in on base percentage (.466), and ranked in the top ten in various categories including: batting average (.338, 10th), walks (32, 5th), assists (107, 6th), and double plays turned (26, 6th). Reese accumulated 47 hits, 32 runs scored, three doubles, 17 RBI, and walked 32 times to just 23 strikeouts.
McDaniel, another Preseason First Team All-MEAC pick, started all 50 games for FAMU in centerfield and was a staple in the middle of the lineup. McDaniel was third in the MEAC in runs scored with 38. The sophomore from Tallahassee, FL notched 54 hits, eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 26 RBI, and was 13-14 in stolen base attempts while playing an excellent centerfield.
Anderson has been the Rattlers' most consistent starting pitcher all season long and ranked sixth in the MEAC with a 3.28 ERA and second with 85.0 innings pitched. The junior from Brandon, FL had a 4-2 record and struck out 53 batters with one complete game.
Wilkinson led the Rattlers with a .344 batting average and notched 43 hits, 23 runs scored, nine doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBI.
Fillingim ranked first in the MEAC in games finished (17), fourth in saves (4), and seventh in appearances (22). The red-shirt junior from Tallahassee, FL struck out 29 batters in 23.0 innings pitched and had a 3-2 record.
