TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 27) – The FAMU Women’s Basketball team is taking a post Thanksgiving break before returning to action this weekend to open their six-game December schedule, following a two-game set last Saturday and Sunday in Texas.

FAMU will host two home games next week: next Thursday, Dec. 7 vs. Lynn University (6:00 p.m.), and on Saturday, Dec. 10 against North Florida (2:00 p.m.).
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Coach LeDawn Gibson’s club played three games last week – all tightly contested affairs which may be a good sign of a group beginning to jell, which could be good news for FAMU as they ramp up preparations for a MEAC title run which begins in January.
WEDNESDAY: SACRED HEART 73, FAMU 68
The Rattlers made a late push last Wednesday against the Sacred Heart Pioneers in the Lawson Center, coming up just short in a 73-68 loss.
FAMU, which trailed 39-33 at the half and 60-50 after three quarters, outscored their guests, 18-13 in the final stanza to narrow the gap with Sacred Heart.
Senior Shakeyrra Morrison led FAMU with 15 points and eight rebounds, followed by junior Florence Ouattara with 14 points and eight boards. Junior Shalunda Burney-Robinson rounded out the top performers with 12 points and seven rebounds.
SATURDAY: UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY 51, FAMU 38
FAMU was in contention throughout in their Texas opener against UT Rio Grande Valley, trailing just 27-21 at the half, after outscoring UTRGV, 16-8 in the second quarter.
The Rattlers edged UT, 11-7 in the third, to pull within a bucket, 34-32 heading into the fourth stanza, where UT clinched the victory with a 17-6 run.
Burney Robinson led FAMU with nine points and nine rebounds, followed by Dawn King with eight points and Florence Ouattara with five points.
SUNDAY: TEXAS A&M CORPUS CHRISTI 58, FAMU 55
The Rattler Women engaged in yet another four quarter dogfight on Sunday in their 58-55 loss to Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the Festival of Sharing Tournament in Ediniburg, Texas.
FAMU trailed 21-11 after the first period, but outscored AMCC, 10-5 in the second to close to 26-21 at the half.
AMCC extended their lead to 43-31 with a 17-10 third quarter run, but that lead nearly evaporated in the final period, as FAMU went on a 24-15 scoring flurry which left the Rattlers three points short, 58-55.
Burney-Robinson led FAMU with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Florence Ouattara with 16 points and five boards. Dy’Manee Royal pulled down nine rebounds and Shakeyrra Morrison added seven rebounds.
