FAMU Basketeers Open MEAC Play At Home Wednesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 1) - After two months of challenging non-conference competition, the FAMU Basketball Teams are primed and ready to begin the chase for their respective 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships withWednesday night’s home doubleheader against the Howard University Bison.

GAME TWO AT 8:00 P.M., features the Rattler Men (1-15) against the Howard Men (3-13).

The Rattlers (1-15)  were tried and tested during a grueling 16-game pre-conference schedule which saw them travel some 16,000 miles for 14 road games.

First-year head coach Robert McCullum is set to lead FAMU into the fray towards their first conference crown since 2007, and he has a Rattler version of the former Miami Heat’s  Big Three to set the pace.

Senior guard Marcus Barham, the MEAC Player of the Week (Dec. 12), is averaging 17.0 ppg, 3.5 rebs and has splashed 39 three-pointers, ranking sixth in the MEAC in scoring; senior forward Desmond Williams , who ranks ninth in the MEAC at 15.0 ppg, plus 4.6 rebs),  and 7-1 junior center Isaiah Martin (8.6 ppg, 6.8 rebs), the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week (Dec. 19), who leads the MEAC with 38 blocked shots, while ranking #7 in rebounding.

The Bison Men (3-13) are paced by freshman sensation guard R.J. Cole, who is second in the MEAC in scoring (21.6 ppg) and last year’s MEAC Rookie of the Year, sophomore guard Charles Williams (17.9 ppg), the fourth leading scorer in the league.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Rattlers continue league play on the road this weekend, heading to chilly Maryland to face the Baltimore Twins, Morgan State (Saturday, 2:00/4:00 pm) and Coppin State (Monday, 5:30/7:30 pm)…. They will return home to host Delaware State on Monday, Jan. 15 in a 6:00/8:00 doubleheader in the Lawson Center.
