Three runs would be enough for Florida A&M, as Thomas Nicoll threw a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits while striking out eleven batters, earning his first win of the season.

Jonathan Figueroa suffered his second loss of the season, throwing five innings and giving up three runs (two earned). Nick Caregnato added three scoreless innings of relief.

The win gave the Rattlers the series, putting them at 13-17 on the year and 6-2 in MEAC play.

Game 2: Tallahassee, Fl. (March 31st, 2018) – The Rattlers came into game three of their series with the Eagles of NC Central looking for the series sweep on Saturday afternoon.

Florida A&M jumped on top early again, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Dallas Oliver reached on a fielding error by the second baseman and would then score on a deep fly ball to center field by Jacky Miles, who also reached on an error by the center fielder. Miles would later score on a single to right center by Brian Davis to give the Rattlers an early 2-0 lead.

The Eagles cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth. Corey Joyce reached on a walk and would later be driven in by a Zach Michalski sacrifice fly, making it a 2-1 game.

Willis McDaniel led off the Rattlers’ half of the fourth with a double down the left field line. He would then advance to third on a throwing error by the pitcher and then scored on a wild pitch. Bret Maxwell followed with an infield single to the shortstop and later scored on a double down the left field line by Kaycee Reese. Reese then scored on a base hit to left by Jacky Miles to extend the FAMU lead to 5-1 after four innings.

NC Central answered in the top of the fifth. Caleb Coyle hit a two-out double and then scored on a single to left field by Jordan Varela-Payne.

The Rattlers once again extended their lead in the fifth inning. John Capra reached base on a walk and Bret Maxwell reached on an error. Both runners would score on a single to center field by Ty Russ, making the score 7-2 in favor of FAMU.

He later scored on a ground ball to the left side as Dallas Oliver reached on an error by the shortstop. Oliver would go on to score on an infield single by John Capra. The Rattlers were not done there, as Willis McDaniel then drove in Jacky Miles and Brian Davis with a double off the left field wall, increasing the FAMU lead to 11-2.

NC Central answered in the top of the seventh. Brad Mize walked to lead off the inning and later scored on a two-out double to right field Caleb Coyle. However that would be the only run of the inning, as Florida A&M held on to win by a final score 11-3.

FAMU will be on the road this Tuesday, April 3rd, to take on the Dolphins of Jacksonville University in a non-conference matchup.
