TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 28) – The Lady Rattler Volleyball team drew closer to the Southern Division title in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, with a weekend sweep of North Carolina Central (3-1) on Sunday, and North Carolina A&T (3-0) on Friday at the Al Lawson Center.
@ In Sunday’s match, NCCU (4-7, 3-5 MEAC) started the first set with a 3-0 run over the Rattlers, keeping the lead until FAMU tied the score 4-4. The Eagles then went on a 13-5, before the Rattlers came back in the set to tie the score 16-16.
After that, the Eagles pushed back with the Rattlers hot on their heels until the score was tied again at 20-20. But NCCU controlled the set from that point, winning 25-21.
FAMU (7-14, 6-1 MEAC) started out leading the second set 3-2, but the Eagles managed to turn the score around with a 12-9 run.
The Rattlers fought back to tie the score 14-14, and from there remained tight to the end of the set, but the Rattlers prevailed to win the set 25-23.
In the third set, the Rattlers started with a 7-3 lead, but the Eagles came from behind to tie the score at one point, but couldn’t catch FAMU, which managed to regain control to win, 25-14.
The last set started with the Eagles jumping to a 7-3 lead, but FAMU not liking the score, pushed back to tight the score 10-10, and never looked back, controlling the game all the way to the end of the set, to win 25-18.
The top performers for FAMU, Radka Dimitrova with 25 kills and 15 digs, followed close by Maria Yvett Garcia with 23 kills and 11 digs and one ace. Followed by Karina Pressoir with five kills.
Ilayda Nurkan dished out 49 assists and Valentina Carrasco added 21 digs.
@ On Friday, FAMU begin the first set with a run 3-0 but eventually NCAT catch the score at 5-5. FAMU fight back to lead the set 11-5 run. But the Aggies catch up the score again to 17-16, kept fighting for every point turning the score 24-22 leaving the Rattlers behind but FAMU fought back, coming from behind with a four-point-run to win the set, 26-24.
NCAT (9-10. 4-2) started the second set with a 3-1 lead, but the Rattlers eventually tied the score 3-3, dominating the set 12-5, before the Aggies took timeout. FAMU kept the lead all the way to the end of the set to win, 25-10.
The third set started with a 2-0 run for the Rattlers, but the Aggies did not let them go far, tying the score, 3-3. The set was played point for point, until FAMU got the lead at 14-10. The Aggies pushed back to come close to 21-20, with the Rattlers still in the lead.
NCAT managed to take the lead for the first time in the set at 24-23, but FAMU tied the set at 24-24, and the two teams battled intensely. The Aggies took the lead one more time, 26-25, but the Rattlers went on a three-point run, winning the set, 28-26.
Top performers for FAMU were, Maria Yvett Garcia, with nine kills and seven digs, one ace and one block, followed by Radka Dimitrova with nine kills and nine digs and one ace. Karina Pressoir added seven kills and two blocks. Ilayda Nurkan dished out 25 assists and Valentina Carrasco added 12 digs for FAMU.
