TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Aug. 10) - The Florida A&M Rattlers went through drills today in shorts and helmets. The acclimation period is in full swing at Rattler camp, with coach Joe Taylor and his staff emphasizing everyone's detail to their assignments.
"It's much easier to concentrate without the anxiety of pads, " Taylor said. He did also say that the Rattlers would start in full pads on next week.
This morning at 6 a.m., football players went through a second set of conditioning tests. Overall, all coaches said they are pleased with the conditioning of the athletes. Taylor has said that the team is farther along than this time last year.
Today's afternoon session began with the usual special teams work. Field goals and game situations on special teams was the focus of the session.
The offensive and defensive units broke off for specialized workouts. Offensive coordinator Lawrence Kershaw conducted the offense, while defensive coordinator Earl Holmes ran the defense.
Strength and conditioning coach Russell Barbarino took the players through an added stretch period after practice.
