NORFOLK, Va. - January 23, 2013- Florida A&M's C. Salif Kante and North Carolina A&T's Cayla Cross were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday. Norfolk State's Robin Riethmueller and North Carolina A&T's Jayla Scott received Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week accolades, respectively.

Kante (Sr., Dakar, Senegal) was 3-0 last week in matches against No.72 Alabama Birmingham, South Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast. He defeated Alabama Birmingham's David Zimmerman (7-6,6-1) and followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win (South Alabama) and 7-5, 6-3 victory (Florida Gulf Coast) at the number one singles position.

Cross (Sr., Bermuda) was the only Lady Aggie to take an opponent to three sets against Appalachian State. She also teamed with Jayla Scott in doubles action and won the most doubles points by a Lady Aggie during the match.

Riethmueller (Fr., Balingen) was 1-0 in singles action at the number three spot against Old Dominion. The rookie won in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) against ODU's Jonas Kuwert.

Scott (Fr. Hephzibah, Ga.) joined Cayla Cross in doubles play at the number two position and won the most doubles points by a Lady Aggie during the match.

Other Top Performances:

Dzmitry Zyhmantovich (NSU) topped ODU's Albert Ochagavia (6-3, 7-5) at the number two singles position last week.

Juan Varon (B-CU) teamed with Seve Day and registered a win at the number ones doubles spot against No. 32 Florida State's Andres Bucaro and Benjamin Lock, who are currently ranked 27th in the nation.
