The FAMU Rattlers (6-14, 3-4 MEAC) and Lady Rattlers (8-12, 5-2 MEAC) will face the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (8-14, 3-4 MEAC) and Lady Wildcats (9-10, 4-3 MEAC) on Saturday at historic Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University.
The Lady Rattlers are coming off a weekend conference split, defeating the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks 67-54, while dropping a decision to the Delaware State Hornets 57-53.
Jasmine Grice, the Lady Rattlers' leading scorer, led the way with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds against UMES. Jaleesa Blue added a spark off the bench as she had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Rattlers to victory.
In the loss to DSU three Lady Rattlers scored in double figures as Kimberly Sparkman led the team with 12 points. Jasmine Grice had her second consecutive double-double, scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Andreya Lacy got involved in the action, chipping in 10 points and four assists.
The Rattlers are coming off a split weekend as well, besting the UMES Hawks 55-54, while never getting in full sync in their 57-48 loss to the Hornets. The 18-point outburst by guard Jamie Adams against the Hawks went toward his being named MEAC Player of the Week, added to the 28-points he scored against S.C. State. In the loss to DSU, the Rattlers were paced by Jomari Bradshaw with a game-high 18 points, followed by Reggie Lewis with 15. Markee Teal led the Rattlers on the boards with eight.
In the last meeting on Dec.1, the Rattlers held on for a 75-67 win over the Wildcats. Adams garnered a game-high 24 points, followed by Jamari Bradshaw with 20 points and Markee Teal pumped in 10 points to round out the cast of Rattlers in double-digit scoring. Muhammad Abdul-Aleem led FAMU on the boards with eight and Reggie Lewis dished out a team-high four assists.
B-CU had a pair of Wildcats to finish in double-digit scoring in the first game as Adrien Coleman finished with a team high 17 points, followed by Alex Smith with 13. Malik Jackson led the Wildcats on the boards with eight, while Paul Scotland dished out a team high four assists.
In their first meeting, the Lady Rattlers defeated the Lady Cats at the Al Lawson Center. Grice scored a game-high 22 points, followed by Kimberly Sparkman with 21. Both Andreya Lacy and Patrice Collie finished in double-digit scoring for FAMU as Lacy scored a career-high 13 points and Collie added 10. Collie also led the Lady Rattlers on the boards with eight and both Lacy and Collie finished with three assists each.
B-CU had a pair of Lady Wildcats to score in double-digits as Chasity Rene` Taylor finished with a team high 18 points, while Amanda Hairston recorded a double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
This Saturday's games have been deemed basketball homecoming for B-CU. The usually spirited Moore Gymnasium is sure to be rowdy when the Rattlers arrive to play.
