Lady Rattlers Upset South Carolina Gamecocks 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 15) - The Florida A&M Softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-4 in their second game of the UCF Marriott Invitational, here Friday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex.

Robbielyn Roberson scored the Lady Rattlers' first run of the seventh inning on an Arianna Stewart single, followed by a bases-loaded walk scoring Tikeya Strong, tying the game at 4-4. Bianca Torres would score the winning run as she plated on a Gamecock infield fielding error, for the 5-4 finale.

Naesha Lewis scored FAMU's first run of the game as she scored on a Kieifi Myrick single up the middle, giving the Lady Rattlers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

SC tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning as Sammie Garcia scored on an Ashlyn Masters fielder's choice.

Alyssa Weaver gave the Lady Rattlers a 2-1 lead in the in the bottom of the fourth inning as she scored on a Gamecock throwing error.

SC would take a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning as they scored two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the top of the sixth inning.

FAMU finished the contest with six hits as six different Lady Rattlers finished with a hit each.

SC (4-1) was paced by Garcia and Alaynie Page as they both finished with two hits each as the Gamecocks finished with nine hits as a team.

Kelly Hunter (1-1) picked up the win for the Lady Rattlers as she pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits. Ashleigh Minter was the FAMU starter as she pitched five innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs and striking out four.

Katie Mark received the loss for the Gamecocks as she gave up three hits and two earned runs in the seven batters, she faced. Julie Sarratt was the SC starter as she pitched six innings, allowing three hits, on earned runs and striking out three.
