Rattlers In Fourth Place After Day Two of MEAC

PRINCESS ANNE, MD (Feb.15) - After two days of competition, the FAMU Rattlers are holding the No.4 position, gathering 23 points in the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championship t the Prince George S&L Complex in Princess Anne, MD.

2012 MEAC Cross Country Most Outstanding Athlete, Elias Chesire, set the pace for the Rattlers with a convincing win in the 5000m run. Chesire finished in 14:47.49 to take top medalist honors in the race. Chesire would also lead off the foursome in the distance medley relay, where the team took second place with the assistance of Isaiah Smith, Troy pollard and Lamere Buchanon. The DMR team tallied a time of 10:25.62.

Heptathlete Leon Jean is making the most of his talents in the heptathlon. He finished fourth in the 60m dash (7.26), sixth in the long jump (6.10m), fourth in the shot put (10.71m), sixth in the high jump (1.75m), sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.06), 10th in the pole vault (2.75m), and second in the 1,000m run (2:54.39).

Multi-talented athlete Lee Williams finished at (6.50m) in the long jump. In the 60m hurdles, Dennis Pugh would finish in 8:35, which was good for 12th place. Thrower Xavier McDaniel took 11th place in the weight throw, with a finish of 13.97 (45-10.00)

Middle distance runner Lamere Buchanon scored a seventh place finish in the 800m dash in a time of 1:55.62. That bested teammate McDaniel Olivier, who finished in 1:58.12, which was good for 14th place.

The Rattlers will attempt to close the gap on the leaders Saturday at the conclusion of the 2013 MEAC Indoor Championships.
