GAINESVILLE,FL (March 3) - The Florida A&M University softball team went winless in their final three games of the Florida Lipton Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. with losses to University of Florida, Mount St. Mary's and Presbyterian.
Florida hit eight home runs against the Rattlers for a 20-2 win for the Gators. Two of those home runs were grand slams. The 20 runs tied a school record for most runs in a game for the Gators. The Rattlers had four hits with one each coming from Brielle Gordon, Ashanti Shepherd, Robbielynn Roberson, and Kiefi Myrick.
Presbyterian took an early lead on the Rattlers, scoring two runs off three hits in the first inning. The Blue Hose opened up their lead to 5-0, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. The Rattlers' committed costly errors that led to a Presbyterian unearned run. FAMU threatened to score in the fifth with the bases loaded, but Brielle Gordon's fly out ended the game with an 8-0 win for the Blue Hose.
Mount St. Mary's avenged their loss earlier in the Invitational with a 3-1 win over FAMU. This was the Mounts' first victory of the season.
The Mount manufactured their first run in the bottom of the second when Rachel Gavigan scored on a wild pitch. They picked up another unearned run on a throwing error for a 2-0 edge.
The Rattlers tried to get back in the game with an unearned run by Gordon in the fourth to make the score 3-1. But, Pagano allowed just one hit in her final three innings of the game to secure the victory.
The Rattlers return to action Tuesday, March 5 versus University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
