TROY, AL (Apr.9) – The Florida A&M men's tennis team (10-10, 2-1 MEAC) defeated the Troy Trojans (8-15, 0-3 Sunbelt) 4-2 in a highly-contested match on Senior Day at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Rattlers took the doubles point and scored the necessary three additional points to take the match.
FAMU No.1 Salif Kante led the Rattlers, as he and partner Takura Happy won the one slot in doubles 8-1, defeating Troy's Mansingh Athare and Sami Ghorbel. In the No.2 doubles slot, the Trojans would get a non-decisionl as Anas Rouchdi and Patrick Eichler were leading Temuera Asafu-Adjaye and Zack Evended 7-2 when play was halted du to the Rattlers securing the doubles point in the No.3 slot. Admire Mushonga and Chidi Gabriel defeated Tommy Cundy and Andre Stabile to corral the doubles point for FAMU.
Kante defeated Rouchdi n the No.1 slot by a score of 6-3, 7-6. FAMU also took the No.2 slot as Gabriel won 6-3, 6-2 over Troy's Athare. Troy would close the gap a bit int he No.3 slot as Ghorbel defeated Evenden 6-1,6-3 to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Rattlers.
Eichler would draw the Trojans even closer with a 4-6, 7-6 (2-0) win over Happy, but that would be as close as the match would get as Asafu-Adjaye closed out the match, defeating Hurd 6-4, 6-2.
The Rattlers will travel to Daytona Beach on Saturday to face the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman in the final match before the MEAC tournament next week in Raleigh, N.C.
