DAYTONA BEACH, FL (May 6) – The FAMU Lady Rattlers (19-30, 10-4 MEAC) played spoiler on Senior Day as they defeated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (17-33, 11-3 MEAC) 12-4, also taking the series two games to three, at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach.
Brielle Gordon was hot from the plate, getting four RBIs on two hits. The Lady Rattlers got 14 hits spread over eight players. Alyssa Weaver got three hits, while Ashanti Shepherd, Gordon, Kieifi Myrick and Corinne Gordon tallied two hits each. FAMU got 11 total RBIs in the team effort.
Jennifer Lindsey got the win for the Lady Rattlers, tossing six innings, allowing seven hits and two walks.
Kelsey Rodney and Sophia Ortega carded two hits each for the Wildcats, who got seven hits as a team. Shanel Tolbert got the start for B-CU. She went three and two-thirds innings, giving up eight hits, eight runs, gave up four walks and struck out one. Breanna Chavez came on in relief to pitch the final two and one-third innings. She allowed six hits and four runs from the 13 batters she faced.
The Lady Rattlers will remain in Daytona Beach until this weekend’s MEAC Softball Tournament. The tournament brackets will be released later this week, including the time and date the Lady Rattlers will play. Check back here at FAMUAthletics.com for more updates.
