NORFOLK, Va. (Nov. 12) – The FAMU Women’s Bowling team took third place in the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division Tournament here Saturday and Sunday at the Chesapeake AMC Bowling Lanes.
FAMU (12-10, 2-4 MEAC) posted a 1-2 mark in both Traditional Play on Saturday, and the second round of Baker Play on Sunday, while going 2-1 in Saturday’s first Baker Round.
Defending division champion North Carolina A&T finished first with a 5-1 showing in conference competition, followed by host Norfolk State (4-2). Bethune-Cookman (1-5) rounded out the group in fourth place.
In Saturday’s Traditional Round, FAMU topped Bethune-Cookman, 879-803, before dropping their next two matchups against Norfolk State, 870 to 901, and North Carolina A&T, 893-935.
Round One of Baker Play saw FAMU roll past Norfolk State, 885-787 and Bethune-Cookman, 836-768, while North Carolina A&T outdueled FAMU, 962-897.
In the second round of Baker Games, FAMU topped Norfolk State, 1,014-936, before being edged by A&T, 952-939, and Bethune-Cookman, 799-785.
FAMU placed three competitors in the Top Ten: Mikayla Davis (7th, 188 average); Monique Ragland (8th, 185 average) and Keondra Eaton (10th, 179 average).
Also in the fray for FAMU were Bethany Noel (171 average) and Demetria Bethel (156 average).
WHAT’S NEXT: The FAMU Women will be in Montgomery, Alabama this coming Friday through Sunday for the Alabama State Hornet Classic.
