The FAMU Women’s Softball team dropped doubleheader to visiting Radford University, 9-1 and 5-2 in 11 innings at the FAMU Softball Complex Monday evening.
In Game One, Radford (14-7) led 9-0 by the sixth inning, when the Rattlers (5-12) scored their lone run, with the game ending via eight-run rule after six innings. The Highlanders had just six hits in the first game, but were aided by six FAMU fielding errors.
Jamesia Stoudemire and Taylor Rosier led FAMU with two hits apiece in the opener. Pitcher Veronica Burse (3-7) went the distance against Radford in the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits, with one strikeouts and three walks in six innings.
In the nightcap, Radford scored a run in the first, and FAMU answered with a tally in the second for a 1-1 score, which how the game went into extra innings.
Both teams scored a run in the 10th, before Radford scored three runs in the top of the 11th for the win, spoiling an otherwise superb pitching performance by Kyaira Brown, who scattered seven Radford hits over 11 innings, allowing five runs, striking out 11 against just one walk.
FAMU outhit the Highlanders in Game Two, 10-7, led by Lauren Williams with four hits and two RBI, while Taylor Rosier had two hits.
WHAT’S ON DECK: FAMU will play in the FAU Tournament in Boca Raton, Florida, Friday through Sunday, with games slated against LIU Brooklyn and Ball State (Friday), Rutgers (Saturday), and Michigan and Stony Brook (Sunday).
