NEWNAN, GA (Sept. 29) – The FAMU Men’s Golf team missed winning the 2018 Black College Hall of Fame Division I Tournament title by one stroke to Prairie View (Tex) A&M University on Saturday.
The annual event, which was contested Friday and Saturday at the Summer Grove Golf Course here in Newnan, saw Prairie View edge out FAMU, 579 to 580, shooting an opening round 291 on Friday and a 288 on Saturday.
FAMU shot a second round best 286 on Saturday, after an opening round 294 on Friday. Saturday’s score was two strokes better than PVU’s 288, but the three-stroke difference on Friday (291 to 294) proved to be the difference.
On the individual leaderboard, sophomore Mulbe Dillard placed second overall, carding a five-under 67 on Saturday, to finish with a two day 141 (74-67=141).
Tying for third place was Cameron Riley, who shot a two under 70 on Friday and an even par 72 on Saturday, for a 142 total.
Alejandro Toro Cupril (T10th, 75-73=148); Ethan Mangum (T14th, 75-74=149); Logan Bryant (T20th, 75-77=152); Prince Cunningham (T20th, 75-77=152); Mahindra Lutchman (24th, 79-75=154); and Chase Killette (33rd, 81-78=159) rounded out the FAMU contingent.
