DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 5) – The FAMU Women’s Volleyball team dropped its’ first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match of the season, falling to archrival Bethune-cookman, 3-1 (23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 18-25) Friday afternoon here at Moore Gymnasium.
FAMU (3-14, 2-1 MEAC) won the third set, 25-21, after dropping the opening two periods to fall behind, 2-0.
Leading the way for FAMU in kills were juniors Maria Yvett Garcia (16), Radka Dimitrova (18), Aybuke Kocabiyik (10) and Karina Pressoir (10).
Ilayda Nurkan topped the club in assists with 36, while the FAMU defenders were very active, recording 91 digs, led by Valentina Carrasco (28), Jessa Long and Radka Dimitrova (17 each) and Garcia (120.
WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU will host a rare three-match weekend set beginning next Friday with a 7:00 p.m. bout against Savannah State in the Al Lawson Center. Saturday, they host Alabama A&M at 12 noon, then will close out on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against South Carolina State.
