Rattler Men Sink Jacksonville Tuesday, 65-50

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 6) –The Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team officially opened its’ 2018-19 season Tuesday night with a 65-50 road victory over Jacksonville University.

FAMU came out guns blazing in the first half, shooting 48 percent to JU’s 25 percent, building a 35-14 halftime lead.

The Rattlers hit 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from distance, while the Dolphins went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc, which contributed to FAMU’s big early cushion.

FAMU, which finished the game shooting 49 percent (26 of 53) from the floor and 46 percent (6-of-13) from distance, still held a shooting edge over their hosts in the second half, hitting 50 percent (11-of-22) of their floor shots to 31 percent (10-of-32) for the Dolphins.

Still, Jacksonville managed to outpace the Rattlers, 36-30 on the scoreboard, but the Rattlers’ big first half was more than enough to keep the Dolphins at bay.

FAMU had balanced scoring from the quartet of Richard Anderson (11 points, 3-of-3 from distance), Tracy Hector (11 points, eight rebounds), Kamron Reaves (10 points,two triples, three steals)) and M.J. Randolph (10 points, three steals).

The Rattlers also got nine points from Justin Ravenel, eight points from Bryce Moragne, and six points and five rebounds from D.J. Jones.

Jace Hogan and David Bell each had 12 points to lead JU, with Bell adding a team-high nine rebounds.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Rattlers will host Tuskegee (Ala.) University Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Al Lawson Center.
