TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Maria Yvett Garcia registered 10 kills and six digs, but it wasn’t enough as the Florida A&M University volleyball team opened the FAMU/FSU Invite with a 3-0 loss to St. John’s at Tully Gymnasium on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Rattlers dropped the opening two sets, 25-15, 25-16, and fell in the third set, 25-16.
Garcia paced the offensive attack with 10 kills to go along with the six digs and three service aces. Elena Demitrova posted a team-high 11 assists. Defensively, Celeste Rodriguez finished with 16 digs, while Alexis Gosha added 10.
Kiara Mikelova led the way for St. John’s with nine kills, while Hanna Wagner and Jovana Askovic each recorded eight. Erica Di Maulo and Tiziana Baumrukova tallied 28 and 11 assists, respectively. Amanda Sanabia led the charge defensively with a match-high 26 digs.

Florida A&M concludes play in the FAMU/FSU Invite on Saturday, with a noon match, against Stony Brook at the Al Lawson Center.
