Volleyballers Fall To Morgan, 3-1 Sunday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 21) – The FAMU Women’s Volleyball Team won the first set Sunday afternoon against visiting Morgan State before bowing out to the Bears, 3-1 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match in the Al Lawson Center.

FAMU won that opening set, 25-14, but couldn’t maintain that early momentum, as Morgan would go on to win the next three sets, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13.

Maria Yvette Garcia and Alexis Gosha set the pace at the net for FAMU with eight kills each, followed by Alexys Mann and Elena Dimitrova with five kills.

Nahla Muhammad and Gosha were tops in digs with 14 and 10 respectively, while Ilayda Nurkan finished with 16 assists, followed by Dimitrova with 10.

Sunday’s loss was the fourth straight for FAMU (6-16, 4-4 MEAC), which heads to the DelMarva region this weekend to face Maryland-Eastern Shore (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Delaware State (Sunday at 1 p.m.) in MEAC play.
