Men's Basketball Holds Off NCCU Saturday, 65-56

TALLAHASSEE, Fla (Feb. 10) – The FAMU Men’s Basketball team scored an upset of an upper-division MEAC foe Saturday evening, knocking off second place North Carolina Central, 65-56 in the Al Lawson Center.

The senior duo of forward Desmond Williams (21) and guard Marcus Barham (20) combined for 41 points to led FAMU to their first win in the last five games. Senior guard Elijah Mayes added 13 points , while Williams, playing on an injured ankle, pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

FAMU led the entire first half, leading by as much as 12 points, 20-8 on a Nick Severado jumper with 8:38 left in the first half. That would prove to be FAMU’s largest lead of the game, as the visiting Eagles stormed back into contention with a 17-8 flurry to finish the half down, 28-25.

A Raekwon Harney jumper with 11:47 left staked the Eagles to a four-point edge at 46-42, but a Mayes jumper with 9:43 left put the Rattlers ahead to stay at 49-48.

Williams led the Rattler finishing surge, scoring eight of FAMU’s final 16 points in the 16-8 run to seal the win.

Raasean Davis led the Eagles (12-12, 6-4 MEAC) with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Pablo Rvias added 12 points for NCCU.

WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU (5-22, 4-7 MEAC), will host preseason men’s favorite Morgan State Monday night in the Lawson Center. Tip time will be 8:00 p.m.
