Rattler Linksters Sixth in MEAC Golf Tourney

SAVANNAH, Ga. (April 26) – The FAMU Men's Golf Team opened play in the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Golf Championship with an opening round 313 at the Crosswinds Golf Club here Wednesday.

The Rattlers stand in sixth place after the first of three rounds Wednesday, led by Cameron Riley, tied for 15th after shooting a three-over 75.

Also in play for FAMU are Prince Cunningham, who carded an opening round 78, followed by Dennis Minefee, who is one shot back at 79; Mahirdra Lutchman shot an 81, with Chase Killette rounding out the FAMU quintet with an opening round 85.

Defending champion Augusta (Ga.) University, an Associate member of the MEAC, shot a an 11-under 277 to take the early lead, with Bethune-Cookman 15 strokes back in second at 292 (+4), and North Carolina Central (298, +10) in third.

Host Savannah State (300) was fourth, followed by Hampton (302), FAMU (3-13) and Maryland Eastern Shore (331).

Second round play begins Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m.
