Rattlers Unable To Stop Streaking Wildcats in Loss

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 15) - Bethune-Cookman completed their sweep of the Florida A&M Baseball team as they defeated the Rattlers 11-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action, here Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Rattlers finished the contest with nine hits as both John Scott and Corey Franklin finished with two hits each to lead FAMU.

B-CU had three Wildcats to finish with three hits each as they tallied a game high 11 hits.

Scott Garner (2-3) picked up the win for the Wildcats as he gave up eight hits, one earned run and striking out three in six innings on the mound.  David Duncan (1-4) received the loss as he pitched two innings, giving up six hits, seven earned runs and striking out one in the 14 batters he faced.

FAMU was the first to light up the scoreboard as Aaron Smith singled to left field scoring John Scott, giving the Rattlers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

B-CU tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning as Brashad Johnson scored on a Carlos Delgado single to the leftside. Jordan Taylor would then give the Wildcats the lead as he scored on a bases loaded walk giving, making the score 2-1 in favor of B-CU. Then the Wildcats would make the score 7-1 as both Josh Johnson and Carlos Delgado scored on a David Lee single, followed by an Anthony Stokes three-run blast to leftfield.

Nick Johnson added to B-CU's lead as he scored on a Taylor double to right field, then Taylor would score as he took advantage of a FAMU infielder's error, giving the Wildcats a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Taylor added to the Wildcats lead as he singled to right field scoring Nick Johnson, giving B-CU a 10-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nick Johnson would score his third run of the game on an FAMU error for the 11-1 final as the B-CU invoked the ten-run mercy rule in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the series sweep of the FAMU, B-CU raises their record to 23-14 and 12-3 in MEAC play, while the Rattlers dropped to 6-35 and 4-11 in conference play.

The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 as they will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on the University of North Florida in a 6 p.m. start.
