SAVANNAH, GA. (April 1) - The Florida A&M Softball team split a doubleheader with Savannah State as the Lady Rattlers dropped the first game 6-4 in extra innings and bounced back to win game two, 3-2 in extra innings, here Sunday afternoon at Lady Tiger Field.
In game one, SSU finished with nine hits, while FAMU tallied seven hits in the game.
Jasmin Donaldson led the Lady Rattlers from the plate as she went three-for-four, with three putouts on the day. India Morgan and Amber Hallman finished with two hits each to lead the Lady Tigers.
Madison Hedderly (10-9) picked up the win as she faced 34 batters, giving up seven hits, three earned runs and struck six in eight innings of work. Ashley Minter(1-2) received the loss for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up six hits, four earned runs and struck out one in six and two-thirds innings of work.
Addie Dozier gave the Lady Rattlers a 4-0 lead as she hit a three-run home run. In the previous at-bat Kiefi Myrick scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.
SSU tied the game at 4-4 as they plated four runs in bottom of the sixth inning as Morgan scored on a Hallman single, followed by a Jami Paolin single scoring Megan Uhrman. Both Destiny Webster and Arion Hagood would score on a FAMU error.
The Lady Tigers would win game one on a Kathy Stewart two-run homer for the 6-4 win.
In game two, the Lady Rattlers finished with a game-high seven hits, while the Lady Tigers finished with six.
Whitney Robinson led FAMU from the plate in game two as she went two-for-three, driving in two runs and scoring two runs, while SSU had six Lady Tigers to finish with one hit each.
Jennifer Lindsey (6-6) picked up the win as she gave up two earned runs, six hits and struck out three in eight innings on the mound. Tiffany Davies (2-7) received the loss as she pitched eight innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, and striking out one.
SSU (19-19, 2-1 MEAC) grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Hallman two-run homer.
FAMU (15-22, 1-2 MEAC) would tie the game at 2-2 as Myrick scored on a Tenisha Dixon double in the top of the fourth innings, followed by a Robinson homer to left field in the top of the sixth inning.
Robinson would be the hero for the Lady Rattlers in game two as she homered to left field in the top of the eighth inning for the 3-2 win.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Friday, April 6 as they will host North Carolina A&T in a 1 p.m. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
