Lady Rattlers Drop Two On First Day Of FAU Tourney

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Feb. 24) - Auburn scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth as they blanked the Florida A&M Softball Team 9-0 in five innings in their first game of the FAU Tournament, here Friday afternoon at FAU Softball Field.

FAMU (2-8) finished the contest with three hits as Jasmin Donaldson, Tenisha Dixon and Alyssa Weaver finished with one hit each for the Lady Rattlers. AU (10-0) finished with ten hits as both Morgan Estell and Lauren Guzmen finished with two hits each.

Angel Bunner (3-0) picked the win for the Tigers as she gave up three hits and struck out four in five innings, while Whitney Robinson (0-4) received the loss for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up six hits, thee earned runs and struck out one in four innings.

AU would take a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning as they took advantage of four hits and one FAMU error to score seven runs for the 9-0 finale.



BOCA RATON, Fla. (Feb. 24) - Florida Atlantic scored two runs in the top of the fifth as they held on for a 3-2 win over the Florida A&M Softball team, here Friday evening at the FAU Softball Stadium in their second game of the FAU Softball Tournament.

Both FAU and FAMU finished with six hits each.

The Lady Rattlers (2-9) had six Lady Rattlers to finish with one hit each, while the Owls (2-10) also had six players to finish with one hit each.

Samantha Messer (1-0) picked up the win for FAU as she went the distance in seven innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs and striking out three.  Jennifer Lindsey (2-2) received the loss for FAMU as she gave up six hits, two earned runs and struck out three in seven innings.

FAMU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Whitney Robinson scored on a Genesis Lopez single to centerfield.

FAU tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth as Alson Milam scored on a FAMU fielder's error.

The Owls took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth as Heather Barnes tripled to right center scoring Sarah Howell. Then a Carlin Speerin single would score Barnes.

The Lady Rattlers cut the Owls' lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth as Alyssa Weaver scored on Amanda Weaver single, for the 3-2 finale.
