FAMU's Salif Kante and Dr. Carl Goodman - MEAC Best

NORFOLK, VA. (April 12) - Florida A&M Men's Tennis Team had four Rattlers to earn All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors.  Head Coach Dr. Carl Goodman was named the conference's men's coach of the year and C. Salif Kante was named the conference Player of the Year.  The Rattlers earned their first ITS NCAA Division I national ranking, checking in at No.69 in the January 2012 poll.  Kante was also ranked No.16 in the NCAA Southeast region.

This is the third time in his career, that Goodman has been name the MEAC Coach of the year as he won this prestigious honor in 2006 and 2010 as the led his Rattlers a 13-9 record and 3-1 in conference play.

In addition to being named the 2012 MEAC Player of Year Kante, a 6-2 junior from Dakar Senegal, earned First Team All-MEAC Honors as he garnered an 17-5 record overall and 3-0 in conference play as he posted wins over Miami, Southern Methodist and Stetson University.

Joining Kante on the first team is Chidi Gabriel, a 5-10 junior from Piscataway, N.J.  Gabriel, finished the season with a 15-7 record overall and 3-0 in conference play as he won 11 of his last 13 matches.
Rounding out the cast of All-Conference performers is Levan Clark and Takura Happy as they both earned Second Team All-MEAC honors.

Clark, 6-2 senior from Orlando, Fla., finished the season 13-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Happy, a 5-8 junior from Mutare, Zimbabwe, tallied an overall record of 14-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Rattlers earned No. 2 seed from the Southern Division in the 2012 MEAC Tennis Tournament as they take on take No. 3 seed Coppin State from the North at Noon in the first round on Friday, April 13 at Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
