BALTIMORE, Md. ( Nov. 18) - The Florida A&M Volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round o f the 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament with a, 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-16) win over Howard University, here Friday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.
FAMU (12-12) was led by Maria Ceccarelli with a game high 20 kills, followed by Katherine Huanec with 13. Diana Gonzales dished out 38 assists, while first team all-conference selection Karol Marquez led the team in digs with 14.
Howard (6-23) was led by Assata Conway as she tallied a team-high seven kills, followed by Meagan Lagerlef and Gabrielle Martin as they both finished with five kills each. Stephine Shultis led the Lady Bison in assists with nine, while Jasmine Tipson led Howard in digs with seven.
In the first set, Howard had built a 18-12 lead, capped off by a Martin kill.
FAMU would then find a rhythm as they went on a 10-4 run to tie the set at 22-22.
The Lady Bison would then tie the set at 24-24 on a Conway kill.
A pair of kills by Ceccarelli would give the Lady Rattlers a 26-24 win.
FAMU would go on to win the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-19.
