JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 22) - The Florida A&M Volleyball team had their five-match win streak snapped as North Florida handed them a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 14-25, 24-26) defeat, here Saturday evening at UNF Arena.
FAMU (5-12) had a pair of Lady Rattlers to finish with double-digit kills as both Marija Jovanovic and Maria Ceccarelli finished with 11 kills each. Diana Gonzales led the Lady Rattlers in assists with 35, while Karol Marquez finished with a game high 25 digs.
FAMU won the first set 25-21, but would then drop the next three sets as UNF bounced back and won the second set 25-20. UNF would dominate the third set as they defeated FAMU 25-14.
In the fourth and final set, the Lady Rattlers and the Ospreys would battle in a nip and tuck contest as FAMU went on a 7-3 run to tie the set at 10-10. FAMU would then tie the set five more times. A kill by Gonzales would tie the set for the sixth time at 24-24. The Ospreys would then capitalize on a Carolyn Jenkins kills and a FAMU attack error to win the set 26-24.
UNF, (11-14) was paced by Carolyn Jenkins with 19 kills, followed by Paige Pridgeon with 18. Anna Budinska rounded out the cast of double-digit kill performers with 13. Casey Gioivanazzi led the Ospreys in assists with a game high 49, while Budinska led the team in digs with 24.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 23 as they will take on Jacksonville University at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Fla., in a 3 p.m. start.
