- The FAMU Rattlers took two of three baseball games from Coppin State University, effectively eliminating the Eagles from MEAC postseason play. The Rattlers lost game one 8-6, before rebounding to win the second game 11-9 and the final game 7-5 in Baltimore at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Oscar Santalo led the Rattlers with two hits, while scoring two runs against the Eagles. Tobi Adeyemi, Jimmie Terrell, Dylan West and Scott Sheplak also scored hits for the Rattlers in the loss. The Rattlers scored six runs on six hits and three RBIs.
CSU's Derek Richards and Alex Black tallied two hits each for the Eagles. CSU scored eight runs on nine hits and seven RBIs.
Heath Blackburn took the loss for the Rattlers. He gave up nine hits, eight runs (seven earned), four walks and seven strikeouts.
Adam Decker came on in relief for two innings, giving up no runs, no hits and no walks, while getting five strikeouts.
The Rattlers got on the winning track with a slugfest against the Eagles, winning the nightcap of the doubleheader 11-9 at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Tobi Adeyemi, Jarryd Reid and Justin Abney garnered two hits each. Reids two hits drove in four runs. Abney and Adeyemi drove in one run each. FAMU scored 11 runs on 10 hits and seven RBIs.
John Bergwall led the Eagles with three hits. Derek Richards, Jesse Savage, Zach Spahn and Chris Kashangaki each stroked two hits each. CSU scored nine runs on 12 hits, with five RBIs.
Cory Franklin got the win for the Rattlers. He pitched two and one third innings, giving up two hits, allowing no runs, three walks and three strikeouts. Thomas Barwick pitched to start the game, but was releived by Stephen Dollar. Dollar went four and two thirds innings.
Jim Vagnier took the loss for the Eagles. He went five and one thirds innings, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits, allowing seven RBIs. John Bergwall completed the game, going one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run.
In game three, catcher Jimmie Terrell went 2-for-3, with four RBIs, to propel the Rattlers to the 7-5 victory, securing the advantage in the weekend series. The victory eliminated the Eagles from postseason play and assured the Rattlers fifth place in the conference.
Jarryd Reid and Tobi Adeyemi claimed three hits each in the victory. The Rattlers scored their seven runs on 14 hits and seven RBI.
The scrappy Eagles got two hits from Craig Richmond and Derek Richards. Jesse Savage, Chris Kashangaki and Ricky Ferri got one hit each for the Eagles.
David Duncan (3-5) got the win for the Rattlers. He pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs and two base on balls, while earning nine strikeouts. Cory Franklin came in to clean up the final two innings. Franklin gave up three hits, three runs, two walks and scored one strikeout.
John Bergwall took the loss for CSU. He went six and one-third innings in the loss. He gave up nie hits, five runs and one base on balls, while striking out 12 batters. Andrew Kiessling and Derek Richards came up in relief.
What's next for the Rattlers: FAMU will face Jacksonville University on Wednesday at Moore-Kittles Field at 6 p.m.
