Rattlers' Feverish Rally Ends In 5-3 Loss To Maine

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 28) - The Florida A&M Baseball team's ninth inning rally falls short as the University of Maine held on for a 5-3 win over the Rattlers, here Tuesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.

Maine (2-2) finished the game with eight hits as Troy Black finished with a team-high two hits to lead the Black Bears.

FAMU (1-7) finished the contest with six hits as Jarryd Reid finished the game with three hits, two of which were doubles.

D.J. Voisine (1-0) picked up the win for Maine as he gave up four hits, one earned run and struck out three in four and one-third innings, while Mike Connolly (1) got the save for the Black Bears as he pitched four and two-third innings of relief, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out eight.

Heath Blackburn (0-3) received the loss for the Rattlers as he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and striking out two.

Maine took an early 3-0 lead after four complete innings of play.

FAMU scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as Reid doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Reid would then score on an Andrew Thomas single back up the middle, cutting the Black Bears' lead to 3-1.

The Black Bears would pick up two more runs as they scored one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh to increase their lead to 5-1.

Reginald Grant would score the Rattlers' first run of the ninth as he scored on a Franklin single, followed by a Reid single up the middle scoring Tyler Lawson, for the 5-3 final.

FAMU will return to action on Wednesday, February 29 as they will close their out two-game series with the University of Maine at Moore-Kittles Field in a 4 p.m. start.
