MEAC ANNOUNCES BASEBALL WEEKLY HONORS
FAMU’s Franklin, B-CU’s Goelz, NSU’s Ore Earn Weekly Honors
NORFOLK, Va., April 18, 2011- Florida A&M’s Cory Franklin earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Patrick Goelz was named the Pitcher of the Week and Norfolk State’s Tyon Ore earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Franklin
(UTL,
5-11, Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) was 13-of-21 (.619) from the plate with
10 RBI, four home runs, and three doubles to aid the Rattlers to a 4-2
mark last week. From the mound, Franklin also recorded three saves while
pitching three innings and allowing a single run, two hits and striking
out five batters.
Goelz
(P,
6-3, So., Palm Bay, Fla.) earned the win as Bethune-Cookman defeated
Norfolk State 12-6. Goelz tallied a 1.80 ERA in five innings striking
out three batters, allowing a single run and four hits.
Ore (OF, 5-8, Fr., Norfolk, Va.) was a perfect 4-of-4 from the plate against Virginia State and Coppin State last week. The rookie tallied four RBI and one home run and recorded an on-base percentage of 1.00 in the victories.
